Adult Volleyball at the Whitney Recreation Center

St. Cloud Park and Recreation is happy to invite all volleyball enthusiasts to join us at the Whitney Recreation Center for Volleyball leagues at your level of competition. Leagues are conducted seasonally in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Leagues are self-officiated from the floor.
Volleyball Tournament
In all leagues, teams will play three games in each match and results of all games will count in the standings. Whether your team is just out for a good time or it's out for blood you will find a level of competition that suits you. The Whitney Recreation Center features Neo-Shock hardwood floors, that are easy on the legs, and Senoh Volleyball equipment.

Levels of Competition

Teams may register for Power Leagues, which are more competitive and do not play by the Class C restrictions. Recreational Leagues are made up of teams that are less competitive and play by Class C restrictions, which can be found in the MSF rulebook (and are summarized below):

Class C Restrictions

  • No fake spikes
  • No jump serves or jump sets
  • No back row attack by back row players
  • No middle or quick sets or shoot sets allowed
  • Not more than one current and/or two former college players or any combination thereof
  • No roundhouse top-spin serves

Registration Information

You may register your team either online, or in person at the Whitney Recreation Center (1529 Northway Drive) or Lake George Municipal Complex (1101 7th Street South). Payment must be made when you register. Registration is not considered complete until the entire team fee is paid.

Sales Tax Exemption

Teams whose team fees are paid by a non-profit organization with a sales tax exemption are exempt from sales tax. Payment must come directly from that organization to St. Cloud Recreation to qualify. A certificate of exemption from that organization needs to be on file with the Recreation Office prior to registering.

Non-resident Fee

20% of the league fee, prior to tax
A non-resident is defined as anyone who does not live within the city limits of St. Cloud. A person may actually have a St. Cloud address but still considered a non-resident as they do not pay property taxes to the City of St. Cloud. If the majority of the team consist of non-residents of St. Cloud, the non-resident fee will be applied.

Minnesota Sports Federation

Winter adult volleyball leagues are sanctioned with the Minnesota Sports Federation and play under their rules unless certain league rules apply. For more information you may visit their website.

Supervision of Children

All children must be supervised during league play. Children are not allowed to run around the gym or recreation center. Any adult who is not playing in a game must supervise their children or teammates’ children. Unsupervised children can be distracting to both players and officials, but most importantly, they run the risk of injuring themselves or causing injury to others.
